Atlantic Money is a good money transfer service (8.5/10) our reviewers recommend for low-cost international payments — especially if you're looking for a savvy in-app experience. Despite being a new kid on the block, Atlantic Money is a licensed and legitimate remittance company (7.8/10) which offers a savvy mobile app (8.7/10) for a flat fee of just £3 or €3 per transfer, making it one of the cheapest transfer providers on Monito's comparison engine (10/10). However, because it's still a new money transfer platform, Atlantic Money doesn't yet have many customer reviews (7.5/10).

What Monito Likes About Atlantic Money

  • No hidden margins, only a simple £3 (or €3) transfer fee,
  • Duly authorised by the FCA and NBB,
  • Convenient, seamless mobile app experience.

What Monito Dislikes About Atlantic Money

  • A small company that's still getting started,
  • Few customer reviews so far.

An excellent payments platform, Atlantic Money is right for you if you're looking for bank-to-bank transfers over a fast and seamless transfer app. However, if you'd like to transfer money for cash pick-up or ensure you're getting the best deal, we recommend searching Monito to find the best deal in real time.

How We Review Money Transfer Providers

With more than 50 providers reviewed and 100 test transfers made over the past ten years, we pride ourselves on providing the best reviews of international money transfer services online. Curious how we make them and why you can trust us? Take a look at our process below:

Where Is Atlantic Money Available?

Atlantic Money is available to residents of the United Kingdom (UK) and the European Union (EU). It supports bank-to-bank money transfers from these two countries to the following ten currencies: USD, GBP, EUR, CAD, AUD, PLN, DKK, SEK, INR, and NOK.

Trust & Credibility

8.0

Background check

Regulated in the UK and the EU by the FCA and NBB respectively.

Security & reliability

Segregated accounts, HTTPS, top-notch cybersecurity.

Company size

Small, new company with few customers, employees, and transactions so far.

Transparent pricing

No exchange rate margins whatsoever; only a transparent £3 (or €3) transfer fee.

Can I Trust Atlantic Money?

Yes, you can undoubtedly trust Atlantic Money to handle your international payments: the platform gives you a safe and secure means to send your money quickly, safely, and cheaply.

The primary reason supporting Atlantic Money's credibility is that it's a duly licensed and authorised money transfer provider everywhere it operates. In the European Union, Atlantic Money is registered as a payment institution by the National Bank of Belgium (NBB) under Atlantic Money NV and Atlantic Money Ltd by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in the UK. This regulation means that Atlantic Money is required, among other things, to maintain a minimum level of regulatory capital on its balance sheet and undergo periodic independent audits.

Following consumer protection regulations, Atlantic Money keeps any money you send via their platform separate from their bank accounts. This process is known as segregating customer accounts or "safeguarding", and you can read more about these measures here. This practice protects you against risk when transferring money with Atlantic Money, even if the company was to become insolvent.

In this section, we didn't rate Atlantic Money a full 10/10 because it's still a very small company with a comparatively short track record. The company was only founded as recently as 2021 (and launched in 2022) and thus hasn't had much time to demonstrate its durability in the market. However, we expect this score to improve with time as Atlantic Money grows its customer base, and we don't find it a compelling reason not to try them out!

Atlantic Money's Service Quality

Where Atlantic Money really shines, in our opinion, is in its excellent mobile app. You probably won't be disappointed by this app's slick design, easy-to-understand interface, and fast transfers! Let's go through these two criteria below:

Using the Mobile App

You can download the Atlantic Money mobile app anytime from the App Store. The app is calibrated for iPhones, but it'll also work on your iPad. Signing up is quick and easy and requires only your full name and mobile number. You don't even need to submit an ID document, although you will need to submit one if you wish to raise the maximum sending limits from the default, which are:

  • £850 every 30 days;
  • £2,500 every 180 days.

Making a transfer itself is quick and intuitive, with clear prompts on an otherwise very uncluttered and simplistic mobile app design. One limitation is that you can only pay for your money transfer by making a bank transfer to the bank account that Atlantic Money provides, so no credit or debit card payments are possible. Similarly, the only way for your recipient to receive their funds is by bank deposit.

To get a better sense of how it works, here's a step-by-step how-to for setting up an Atlantic Money account and making a money transfer:

Transfer Speeds

There's no getting around it: Atlantic Money transfers are fast!

There are two ways to send your money with Atlantic Money (and both of them are fast). The first is Express, and the second is Standard. Standard transfers take two business days to arrive in your beneficiary's bank account. On the other hand, Express transfers for a small extra fee (which we'll explain in the next section) are even faster.

Here's a summary of Atlantic Money's speeds by destination country:

In our opinion, the small fee is so minuscule that the Express option is worth it for most transfers, especially if you're sending to the UK or EU, where the money will arrive instantly. However, if you're sending money to Australia or another country where the money will already take a business day to arrive, we don't think it's too much of a gain to use Express.

Fees & Exchange Rates

10

Transfers to a bank account

Transfers are almost always below 1.5% in total costs.

Atlantic Money's Fees & Exchange Rates

Atlantic Money is a very cheap way to send money worldwide, charging no exchange rate margin and fixing only a £3 (or €3) flat fee onto all international payments. This makes Atlantic Money extremely affordable, especially if you're planning to send more than £300 (or €300), in which case the platform only costs 1% or less! (For comparison, UK banks can easily cost up to 10% for a similar-sized transaction. In our dedicated explainer, you can read more about why banks are a bad idea for international payments.)

The only other costs your transfer might incur are as follows:

  • Speed: There is a 0.05% commission on all Express transfers. We find this a minimal and fair price for the convenience of your money being delivered up to 2 days faster if you're transferring to the UK or Eurozone!
  • Transfers on weekends: Not a fee per se, but if you transfer on the weekend, you will be asked to decide whether to transfer at the exchange rate when the markets open again or the exchange rate at which the markets closed. Choosing one over the other can make your transfer slightly cheaper or more expensive, depending on your pick.

Although these fees make Atlantic Money cheap, it's only sometimes the cheapest provider for a given transfer on Monito's comparison. According to our data, providers like Wise, TransferGo, and CurrencyFair are often cheaper than Atlantic. Atlantic Money Reviews

Atlantic Money is a relatively new service that's only recently begun to pick up in popularity. As a result, there are few independent reviews from consumers to date (fewer than 500 on the App Store as of September 2022). However, of these reviews, a majority of them are very positive, with the service's low fees and mobile app being most frequently praised.
